How do you clean burnt caramel from a sauce pan?
My first attempt to make caramel apples with my little girl and the candy thermometer never reached temperature. Long story short…it burnt. The pan is a mess. Any ideas would be appreciated.( I tried it again using another pan and no thermo…came out perfect! )
Try boiling water in the pan. The caked-on residue will often soften and float away.
Also, hydrogen peroxide, oxy-clean and to a lesser extent, bleach, will remove the sort of caked black stuff you get from burning a pan dry…the C2 (black carbon crud) mixes with the O to make CO2. (a small amount is released as co, but not enough to worry about safety.)
