Uk number plates car – a history of the DVLA
Car number plates act as vehicles unique identification. Like DNA, there is no number two plates of the same specific and a recording can be found on a specific vehicle. numbers All registration details held on a central database, managed by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency known as the DVLA.
Over plates years, the number of cars have followed different sizes to meet the increased amount of cars on our roads. Registrations cars were first made compulsory in 1903 when the car engine Act was introduced. Back then the DVLA did not exist it was the responsibility of the local board to administer registration numbers. Problems arose, however, when vehicles were sold or the owners move to a different region, because it was necessary for the registration details to be transferred on another board. Over time this problem grew with the massive increase in the volume of traffic on our roads. It is clear that the system of councils car registrations could not cope.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre (DVLC) was founded in 1965 and took responsibility for the administration of car number plates across the country. The head office is based in Swansea and has 81 offices supporting the administration of car registrations as well as road and vehicle related issues such as providing information on vehicles to the police. Little by little, even after office was involved in the system for registering cars, causing many local DVLA offices to close. The number of local offices had reduced to 53 in 1985 and changed its name to DVLC the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). Currently there are 40 offices premises throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
Since the introduction of the DVLC / DVLA, there have been 3 different registration number formats: suffix registration numbers, registration number of the prefix and the current or new registration numbers style. plates suffixes began to be published in 1963 and lasted until 1983. The format displayed three letters, up three numbers and a letter identifying the age for example ABC 321A. Prefix registration numbers of vehicles have been released during suffix series was exhausted and reversed the format by putting an age identifying letter at the beginning of the plate. She was followed by a maximum of three numbers, then three letters, for example A321 ABC). I, U, Z, Q and O registrations were never issued, either suffix or prefix series. Our current style of DVLA number plates were first published in 2001. The registration numbers display format of two letters, two numbers followed by three letters. The numbers give an estimate of the age that the vehicle was registered for the first and the first two letters relating to the area where the vehicle was first registered. An example of a plate current style DVLA NE02 ABC.
Since the introduction of car number plates were literally millions of combinations created for opportunities to find a private plate to answer your score is high. Nevertheless, popular names and initials and are selling incredibly fast extremely rare. Today, the plates are no longer just an identifier for our vehicles, becoming collector's items and the ultimate car accessory.
